2-0 down at the Etihad and staring defeat in the face. We can't get the ball, we can't get out of our half, how do we stop this team? These were the questions that Pochettino and Spurs faced last season mid way through the second half last season. Up stepped the man of the moment Heung-Min Son, and Spurs' go to man Dele Alli. We fought back last season and earned a brilliant point away from home.
What can we take from that game at the Etihad last season? Defensive frailty on City's behalf. Whilst this season their attacking play has been nothing short of sensational, they are still vulnerable defensively. Having Harry Kane spearheading our attack at the weekend gives us every chance, because when he is on form, he is unplayable, and creates chances on his own, from nothing.
We faced a daunting task a few months ago when we went to Madrid, to take on the holders of the Champions League and one of the best sides in Europe. We went in to that game with belief, and Pochettino being the genius that he is, played a system that nobody predicted. We drew that game, and outplayed then weeks later at Wembley. The same can be said for games against Dortmund, and Liverpool.
Injuries are the factor that limit Pochettino and what he can do tactically on Saturday. Without Sanzchez, Alderweireld and Wanyama, it does reduce the options of how we setup. However, Pochettino being Pochettino, I would not be surprised to see another complete shock when the teams are announced.
Will it be a tough game? Of course it will. But I have as much belief in Pochettino pulling off another tactical masterclass as I do anything else.
