The economic future and legacy of THFC is looking great.
PL and CL TV money has never seen the current heights and we are in a position in which we can (optimistically) expect to regularly receive the "top table " portion of this huge pie.
This alone should ably assist with the payment of the new digs.
When you add to this pot:
+ Young team, all contracted up for many years. Even if the predators come in to pick players off - they won't come cheap.
+ Growing global fan base.
The future, on paper looks great.
The only lingering concern is the present and this "golden generation" lack of silverware. Playing sexy football and having an arguably complete first XI means nothing to the history books. The legacy of a football club and how history judges football is judged on Cup wins and league titles, domestic and European.
Can this Tottenham team make the jump to win a series of silverware and create a legacy that our great club , players and fans deserve?
Last seasons wet flannel of a finish and this seasons double exit from Europe has given a window of refection to assess the ability to achieve our ambition and potential to have THFC's name in the history books for this generation of players. Here's a few points I have reflected on when assessing this teams potential;
Manager and set up : Tick. In Poch we trust, although a young manager with no record of real success, he has the complete support and respect of the team, fans and board. He is not afraid to make tough and innovative decisions as we have seen with his formation, fitness levels, belief in young players, and he seems to learn from his mistakes.
Most importantly, Poch gives the impression of a manager committed to achieving success at Spurs. Let's hope we can keep hold of him.
Quality of players: Tick. Not only have we a team of young internationals, but they are starting to get the recognition for their performances with awards , caps and pub combined XI chat ;)
On their day with our voices behind them the team have created some magic football and matches we will never forget.
The downsides are a questionable away record, record against the big 6 and general ability to "bring it over the line" in crunch competition matches. Let's hope this downside is a natural learning curve for the boys and they can find the inner strength and turn this potential and skill into a winning mentality and belief that fill the WHL trophy cabinet.
Winning mentality - As stated above this where the question mark lies for me. There is an obvious commeraderie amongst the boys and we have the right man wearing the arm band, but there does seem to be a lack of something in certain big games.
Whether it is nerves, lack of fight or just killer instinct, it must be addressed and some backbone added if this talented team achieve their potential and become serial winners feared across the globe..
I believe this winning instinct will come with time and togetherness, but feel we can forward this process by bringing in a player who has that winning at all costs attitude and experience.
Players like this don't come cheap, and would realistically be past their peak to join spurs, but imagine the impact a player such as Xavi, or Schweinsteiger would have on the dressing room. Or am I setting my goals too low, could we tempt a Mueller or Cavani with the bright lillywhite future that we all dream of?
Achieving a successful future becomes more and more realistic with every season, we just need one little win to get the ball rolling.. FA cup maybe???
